Vic Mensa Reveals Son’s Name In New Track 'I Wanna Be Ready' ft. Mansa Musa Mensa

LISTEN NOW

Vic Mensa revealed in his latest song, “I Wanna Be Ready” ft. Mansa Musa Mensa, that he and his girlfriend, Melanie, welcomed a son who is now 8 months old and makes an appearance on the track.

In an exclusive interview with US Weekly, Vic shared why he and Melanie initially kept the news private: “With the world being the way it is and the internet, I just wanted to take my time,” he explained. “I wanted to protect our peace, protect Melanie’s peace, and honor the process of pregnancy and his infancy. It just felt like the right time.”

The couple named their son Mansa Musa Mensa (aka Triple M) to honor his African heritage. Mansa Musa was a 13th-century emperor of Mali, widely regarded as the wealthiest man in human history. Vic’s father is from Ghana, and the couple wants to preserve and celebrate African culture as the historical narratives surrounding them begin to fade.

“It was important to me to present him to the world in this artistic way,” Vic added. “That’s just how my mind works—in terms of film, song, and spoken word. To bring that vision to life the way I envisioned it is just dope.”

‘Otra Nota’ + ‘Tienen Mundo’ – Lismar’s Latest Videos Turning Up The Heat!

Rolling Stone crowned Lismar as one of the top 25 Spanish-language artists to watch this year.

"At just 19, Lismar demanded the world’s attention when she bounced on 'Music Sessions, Vol. 60' with the famed Argentine producer Bizarrap last year. Quickly, fans got to know her unforgiving, take-no-prisoners rap bars and rapid-fire flow — all part of a career she’s been building since busting out of the scene in the Dominican Republic. The most exciting thing about her? Rapping is just one side of what she can do; Lismar also has plenty of R&B tracks and ballads in her repertoire, and she’s ready to show the full extent of her powers in 2025." —J.L.
